The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority says contrary to reports, a helicopter that crashed in Port Harcourt last week was airworthy.

In a statement by NCAA Director General, Chris Najomo, the civil aviation regulator said it was not true that the ill-fated copter was scrapped in 2018, as claimed by an online news platform.

On Thursday last week, a helicopter operated by East Wind Aviation and engaged by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, crashed along the waterways in the Rivers State capital, after it took off from Port Harcourt Military Base with its destination as the FPSO – NUIMS ANTAN oil rig.

A total of eight persons were confirmed on board but four bodies have been recovered so far.

An online platform had claimed that the ill-fated helicopter was scrapped outside the country in 2018 but the NCAA boss said that was not correct.
