Local Government Councils in Edo South including Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia South West, Ovia North East, Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode have raised strong concerns over a purported inauguration and summit ceremony of Association of Community market Women and Men scheduled to hold on Thursday 25th July 2024 at viewpoint Hotel by 10:00am.
A statement jointly signed by Authorities of Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha, Ovia South West, Ovia North East, Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Local Government Councils says the Purported inauguration whose invitation card is been circulated negates the provisions of the fourth schedule of the 1999 constitution as amended which states as part of the function of the Local Government to include but not Limited to the establishment, maintenance and regulation of markets including the Association therein is illegal as the different security agencies have been notified.
The Statement adds that the purported inauguration is foreseen to create an acrimony which is contrary to the Iyeki age long structure as presently headed by one Madam Blacky Ogiamien at the state level as well as Iyeki at local government level and at various Markets that have long been inaugurated in all markets.
The Statement adds that the convener of the meeting and the general public is by this notice informed that such inauguration is illegal,
which is foreseen as a threat to peace in the markets and therefore will not be tolerated.
