The Bauchi State Police Command has said the 2024 Zaar Festival, scheduled for November 2, 2024, has been suspended following a court restraining order issued on October 30, 2024.
In a statement Signed by the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, for the Commissioner of Police, emphasized the importance of adhering to court orders and ensuring peace in the community.
The Command encourages parents, guardians, and community leaders to guide their wards towards positive engagement and discourage any actions that could lead to unrest.
The police warned the organizers of the festival, along with other individuals involved, of the prohibition of conducting any related processions in Tafawa Balewa, Bogoro Local Government Area, or any other location, until a definitive court ruling is rendered.
Historically, the Zaar Festival has been associated with incidents of conflict, resulting in attacks on individuals, damage to property, and disruption of public order.
