Brighton condemned Manchester United to a fourth defeat in five Premier League home games with three goals to one win.
Brighton struck after just five minutes as Kaoru Mitoma beat United’s defensive line before presenting Yankuba Minteh with the inviting finish.
Bruno Fernandes had pulled United level with a twenty-third-minute penalty but Minteh turned provider on the hour as he chipped a cross to the far post and Mitoma won a duel with Noussair Mazraoui to turn the ball into the net from less than a yard.
Andre Onana came sliding out to collect a low Yasin Ayari cross but released the ball after grabbing it, with Substitute Georginio Rutter turning the ball into an empty net.
It was the Seagulls’ sixth win in seven meetings with United, while Manchester City are the only club to have emulated their achievement of winning three games on the go at Old Trafford in the Premier League era.
In other games, Nottingham Forest secured three goals to win against bottom club Southampton at the City Ground to move level on points with second-placed Arsenal while Everton piled more pressure on Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou with three goals to two victory at Goodison Park.
