The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, has said that over 26 building collapse was recorded across the State as at September 2024.

The State Director Operations and Maintenance, Engineer Olatunde Akinsanya said the recent building collapse at number 20 Amusu Street ,Off Bale Bus-Stop at Orile Iganmu area of the State was as a result of lack of adherence to the Agency’s notice of evacuation served to residents of the area

He said as a result of growing numbers of building collapse in resent time, the Lagos state emergency management agency. LASEMA together with identified stakeholders who have the resources and technical knowledge to prevent, mitigate and responds to a collapse building incident, had established a working operational template and procedure to end frequent occurrence of such incident.

Engineer Akinsanya said Investigations at the scene of incidents reveals that the said building has shown serial distress along the concrete column, beams and block walls since 2016 and that the foundation type can no longer support the entire weight of the two-story building.

Akinsanya also added that an Adjoining two story building closed to the self-collapsed building of the residential house in questioned, with few locks up shops at the ground floor was also considered distressed after a thorough assessment along the corridor of the incident and has since been brought to the ground.

The agency said no life was lost and no record of any injured person
