The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa has directed immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the attac and killing of troops of One Eighty One amphibious Battalion by youths of Okuoma in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.
A statement by Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau says the slain officers and soldiers while on a peace mission to Okuoma community on Thursday were surrounded by some youths and killed.
The statement explains that the unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call after the communal crisis between Okuoma and Okoloba communities.
It said the reinforcement team led by the commanding officer was also attacked, leading to the death of the commanding officer, two majors, one captain and twelve soldiers.
According to the statement, the military remains focussed and committed to its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the society.
It adds that few arrests have been made in connection with the incident while steps are in place to unravel the motive behind the attack.
