The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that one Mr. Jonathan Okunbor, a suspect being investigated for an alleged six billion naira fraud, is not a witness in the Edo Election Petition Tribunal.

A statement by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, explained that Okunbor is not a witness for the PDP in the election tribunal. Rather, he is a prime suspect linked to a case of misappropriation of funds involving all 18 local government areas of Edo State.

The statement further noted that ongoing investigations revealed that about six billion naira was diverted to Kezmith Global Ventures, owned by Okunbor, and that the suspect was operating the ventures using the name and identity of Mr. Godfrey Emode.

It was also stated that EFCC investigators, in their efforts to uncover the activities of Okunbor, arrested Emode, who led them to the suspect at Eterno Hotel, where a pre-trial meeting was being held.

Investigators interrogated a counsel about Okunbor’s status in the election tribunal matters, and he clearly stated that Okunbor was not a witness in the case.
