The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance policy, following the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT, Olatunji Disu, has warned officers against extortion or harassment during the exercise.
A statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, stated that all vehicle owners in the FCT are required to obtain a valid Third-Party Insurance policy before operating on public roads.
She advised those without valid insurance to get insured immediately to avoid sanctions.
She added that the CP had instructed officers to conduct the enforcement with professionalism, courtesy, and strict adherence to the law.
Explaining the benefits of the policy, Adeh noted that it is designed to protect road users from financial losses due to accidents, ensuring compensation for victims of property damage or bodily injuries.
