The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has announced that telecom tariffs in Nigeria will soon increase.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting with mobile network operators in Abuja, the minister assured Nigerians that the tariff hike would not be the 100% increase currently being proposed by telecom operators. He explained that consultations and engagements are ongoing to determine an acceptable rate that balances the needs of consumers and the operational sustainability of telecom companies.
Tijani further revealed that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will approve the new tariffs soon and make them public. He emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting consumers while enabling telecom companies to invest significantly in infrastructure and services.
Additionally, the minister assured Nigerians that alongside the tariff adjustments, measures would be implemented to ensure they receive value for their money through improved and meaningful connectivity.
