The Federal Government has allocated one hundred billion naira in the 2025 Budget awaiting passage in the National Assembly to provide solar mini-grids in selected government institutions, federal universities, and their teaching hospitals.
The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, said once the budget is passed and signed into law by President Bola Tinubu, the agency would begin work to provide reliable, cost-effective, and climate-friendly power supply in the government institutions.
Aliyu, who said the funding comes under the National Public Sector Solarisation Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Power, explained that it is a new concept designed to reduce the cost of governance.
The Rural Electrification Agency boss said the current government analyzed the amount spent by public institutions for the procurement of diesel and generating sets, and therefore the funding is being provided to solarize the institutions to address the situation.
