Fire on Tuesday morning razed part of a two-storey building located at number nineteen, Odiase Street, off Adolor College Road, Ugbowo, Benin City.
The two flats on the top floor of the two-storey building of four flats were razed and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
According to eyewitness accounts, neighbours made frantic efforts to put out the fire but were unsuccessful. Firefighters from the University of Benin, UBTH, Edo State Fire Service and NPDC arrived at the scene to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to other buildings.
According to eyewitnesses, occupants of the two flats razed by fire were already out of the house when the fire started.
