The Nigerian Army says low fence and the absence of Closed Circuit Television Cameras, CCTV, are largely responsible for the July 5, 2022 Kuje jailbreak at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
This was made known at the ongoing probe by the House of Representatives Joint Committee of the Reformatory Institutions, Justice, Police Affairs, Interior and Human Rights.
The Joint Committee calls for synergy among all security and paramilitary agencies to guarantee the safety of inmates and ensure that machinery will be put in place for the decongestion of correctional centres.
The lawmakers described the jailbreak as an embarrassment that must not be allowed to happen again.
