Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital has appointed Doctor Ya’u Abubakar Gagarawa as the new Chief Medical Director, CMD.
A statement from the Hospital says Dr. Ya’u Gagarawa, who has assumed office brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to excellence in healthcare, which aligns perfectly with the University’s mission to provide outstanding medical services and education focusing on new technology and innovation.
Before his appointment, Dr Ya’u Gagarawa was the former Head of Surgery Department at the National Hospital Abuja.
He was also the Head of the Division of Laparo-Endoscopic Surgery at the National Hospital Abuja, where he worked as Chief Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon. He is a fellow and examiner of the West African College of Surgeons, as well as Medtronic Trainer, Centre for Simulation, Laparoscopy and Endoscopy, Istanbul, Turkey.
He graduated with MBBS from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria and from the Queen Mary, University of London, UK, with MSc in Surgical Skills, Laparoscopy and Endoscopy. He has a diploma from University of Pisa, Italy, in Minimally Invasive Surgery, with focus in MIVAT, Minimally Invasive Video-assisted thyroidectomy.
He also has a certificate in leadership and management from the London School of Economics, LSE. He is a recipient of many national and international prizes and member of various national and international professional organisations.
In this new role, Dr. Gagarawa will lead the hospital in advancing medical care, enhancing patient experiences, and fostering a collaborative environment for both staff and students.
The hospital expressed confident that under his leadership, Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital will continue to achieve new heights in medical innovation and community service.
