The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says a total of one hundred and seventy-seven thousand, nine hundred and fourteen voters were registered during the last continuous voter registration ahead of the upcoming Edo and Ondo State Governorship elections.
A statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun says one hundred and nineteen thousand two hundred and six were registered in Edo State, while fifty-eight thousand, seven hundred and eight were registered in Ondo State.
INEC however, stated that the figures excluded the eight thousand, eight hundred and forty-seven applications for voter transfers into Edo State and three thousand, one hundred and thirty-two into Ondo State from other parts of the country.
It said applications for transfers within Edo and Ondo States have already been integrated into the voter register.
According to the statement, INEC will release the comprehensive and final register of voters for both states in the coming days.
The Edo State governorship election is slated for the twenty-first September, 2024, while Ondo governorship election will be held on the sixteenth November, 2024.
