Joint public service negotiating council of Edo State has reminded the Governor of Edo State Mr Godwin Obaseki of his commitment made during the inauguration of the labour house to align the state minimum wage with any any minimum wage structure approved by the federal government.
The Joint public service negotiating council JPSNC made the observation in a communique issued at the end of a meeting held on Tuesday In Benin City.
The JPSNC who appreciated the state governor Godwin Obaseki for his development strides in the state said with the recent passage and implementation of the new minimum wage of seventy thousand Naira at the federal level the state governor should adopt the federally mandated wage structure for it’s workers .
In the communique signed by the JPSNC chairman Comrade Godwin Oisamaye and secretary comrade Osaji Ife Jacob said while the Edo State government has increased the minimum wage to 70,000 naira comparative analysis reveals that his implementation does not match the comprehensive structure of the federal wage.
The council appealed that the minimum wage should reflect on the basic salary of workers even though the state lack the constitutional authority to independently set wage standard for workers rather state wage policies should reflect those adopted nationally.
