The Kebbi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the College of Health Technology, Jega, following a student protest that turned violent.

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Isah Abubakar Tunga, who announced the closure said the action was necessary to prevent further escalation of unrest.

The protest, which began over grievances including lack of course accreditation, poor sanitation, and bad leadership, saw angry students target the Provost, burning his house and vandalizing his car.

Abubakar Tunga assured that a committee would investigate the incident, and those responsible would face consequences.

The college will remain closed for three weeks to a month.

YOU WIL RECALL THAT THE Students of the College of Health Sciences and Technology in Jega, Kebbi State, on Thursday set the residence of the Provost, Alhaji Haruna Saidu-Sauwa over an allegation of N23m Extortion from the students regarding index registration for 250 graduating students.

His vehicle was also vandalised during the violent protest.

The provost of the school, Sawwa, described as fictitious, baseless and mischievous the allegations making the rounds that he had connived with a certain body in Oyo State to extort students of his college to the tune of N23m.
