A teacher in Lagos State, Stella Nwadigo of Christ-Mitots International School, Isawo, Ikorodu, has been arrested for assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, during a lesson.
Nigerians expressed outrage after a viral video showed Nwadigo repeatedly slapping the child for not writing the number six as instructed.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, confirmed the arrest during a phone interview on Wednesday. She assured that the case is being handled appropriately.
Kayode Sutton, spokesperson for the Lagos State Ministry of Education, stated that the matter has been escalated to relevant departments for further investigation and forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
The disturbing incident has sparked widespread calls for a thorough investigation into the school’s operations.
