The Nigeria Labour Congress has issued a March one deadline for telecom companies to reverse the recent fifty percent tariff hike or face a total shutdown of their operations.

The Labour union condemned the hike despite an agreement with the Federal Government and the Nigerian Communications Commission and calls for an immediate reversal to avoid severe consequences.

To resist the hike, the NLC has directed workers and citizens to boycott the companies’ services daily from eleven in the morning to two in the afternoon, beginning from Thursday, thirteenth February 2025, until the end of the month.

In a communique signed by NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, the NLC accused telecom firms of betraying trust and disregarding due process by implementing the hike before the agreed review was completed.
