Chief Felix Omemu, the South-South Zonal Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, has stated that he does not support the party meeting scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025, as it violates Section 26, Subsection 2 of the party’s amended constitution from 2017.
In a statement, Omemu declared that the South-South Zonal Executive Committee meeting in Benin City is illegal, emphasizing that such meetings require approval from the Zonal Working Committee. He noted that there was no prior meeting of the Zonal Working Committee to discuss any reports for the upcoming meeting.
Omemu pointed out that, according to the constitution, he must be informed of any reports intended for the Zonal Executive Committee’s consideration, and he is currently unaware of any such meeting that authorized the Zonal Working Committee to convene.
He dissociates himself from this illegal gathering and urges his colleagues in the zone to boycott the meeting, which he believes lacks transparency and does not serve the party’s interests, as many leaders were not consulted beforehand.
Omemu is alerting key PDP leaders in the South-South zone, including state governors, former governors, National Assembly members, state assembly principal officers, National Working Committee members, and state chairmen, urging them to hold the meeting’s conveners accountable to prevent any negative repercussions from this unauthorized meeting.
