President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of the old Oyo State and one of Nigeria’s most distinguished intellectuals and public servants.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the Olunloyo family, as well as the government and people of Oyo State, describing the late elder statesman as a brilliant mind, patriotic leader, and dedicated nation-builder.

Renowned for his academic brilliance, Dr. Olunloyo earned a PhD in applied mathematics and number theory from St. Andrews University in Scotland at the age of 25.

By 27, he had already become a commissioner in the old Western Region—a remarkable feat that set the tone for a life of service in both education and governance.

President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to Dr. Olunloyo’s academic and professional legacy, particularly his pioneering role as the founding rector of both The Polytechnic Ibadan and the Kwara State Polytechnic.

Dr. Olunloyo briefly served as governor of the old Oyo State before his administration was cut short by military intervention.

Despite the brevity of his tenure, President Tinubu praised his time in office as being marked by vision and integrity.

Highlighting Dr. Olunloyo’s contributions to nation-building and intellectual development, President Tinubu described him as a strong advocate for education as a tool for national transformation.
