The management of Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, Iyanomo, Edo State says by virtue of government acquisition vide Gazette Number 14 of March 23, 1961, the Institute is the one entitled to the Statutory Right of Occupancy over a large expanse parcel of land acquired and covering an area of Five thousand, one hundred and ninety seven acres on Benin-Sapele Road.
The said expanse of land is now the subject of litigation pending in the High Court of Edo State involving the Institute and the neighbouring communities of Uhie, Iyanomo, Evbeukpen and Obayantor One.
Suit Number B/806/2021 involves Pa Alfred Imafidon and others versus Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, SUIT Number B/983/2021 involves Pa Iyamu Emokpae and others versus Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, Suit Number B/460/2021 involves Godwin Omoregie and others versus Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria while Suit Number B/590/2022 involves Pa Robinson Izekor and others versus Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria.
A statement signed by the Executive Director, Rubber Research Institute of Nigeria, Doctor L. N. Dongo warned that anyone who buys, sells, leases, transfers or in any way alienates the said government land does so at his or her own risk.
