The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the killing of six soldiers during a raid by the Islamic State and Boko Haram group on its military base in Borno State.
Fighters from Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, reportedly launched a pre-dawn attack in trucks and on motorcycles at the base in Sabon Gari in Borno State’s Damboa district.
According to the report, fighter jets were deployed from the regional capital, Maiduguri and struck the attackers as they retreated.
In an update statement on Wednesday, the DHQ said although thirty-four terrorists were killed and twenty-three AK 47 weapons recovered, six of its personnel were killed in action.
The DHQ added that its troops recovered over two hundred rounds of seven point six-two mm special ammunition.
The Armed Forces reiterated that it is conscious of its role and responsibility in ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation.
It also said troops remain committed to the course of defeating the terrorists.
